Janas Ensemble

The
core of the JANAS project is concerned with the nature of the
artistic contacts and exchanges between the different regions of the
Mediterranean area during the Renaissance and the Baroque, and the
interactions of music with the other arts over this period.
The ensemble takes its name from the Janas, the Fairies of
the mythology of Sardinia, an island at the cross between Italy and
Spain, between Madrid and Naples, in the period between the Siglo de
Oro and the sunset of the Mediterranean centrality. The artists who
co-operate in this stimulating project combine their experience in
order to investigate the literary, musical and choreographic aspects
of the period.
They study and analyse the ancient sources, thus renewing
this repertoire in all its extraordinary abundance. The members of
the JANAS ensemble have for years dedicated themselves to the
rediscovery and study of ancient music, and work with prestigious
ensembles such as Hesperion XX, Tripla Concordia, L'Europa Galante,
Aglaia, Cantilena Antiqua and la Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini.
